SPARES FOR THE YAMAHA RD250: AIR-COOLED 250 cc PARRALEL TWIN

This page will provide a guide to sources of parts and actual new and used parts for sale for Yamaha's air-cooled RD250 models.

RD250 Model Identification

Before you buy parts for your RD250 you need to know which model you have. From 1973 to 1977, Yamaha released 6 model versions of this bike, the first, in 1973 was simply the RD250. This was followed in 1974 by the RD250A, the RD250B in 1975, RD250C in 1976, RD250D in 1977 and finally the RD250 E & F.

The first model RD250 of 1973 had a rounded fuel tank and drum front brake. The RD250A model featured a disc brake on the front and retained the drum rear. The RD250B was the last rounded tank model with front disc and rear drum. The RD250C was the first to feature the distinctive 'coffin' fuel tank but still featured wire-spoked wheels as with all previous models. As wire wheels do not last as well as cast alloy ones, many RD250C models will have been modified with the addition of the cast wheels from the later D/E/F models, making the look very much like the later bikes. The RD250D launched in 1977 was the first to have disc brakes at the front and back and had wire-spoked wheels as standard, with the cast alloy wheels being an optional extra that many people chose. With the cast wheels fitted this was essentially the same bike that saw the model through to the end of its run. The RD250E and F models being the same machine, with cast alloy wheels fitted as standard and different paintschemes.

It is the later D, E and F models that are the most common on the roads today and arguably the more collectable.
